APLM / FLIP communications training for Channel port managers - Ouistreham

Hosted in Ouistreham from 14th to 16th October 2014FLIP port partners participated in a workshop into the preparation of communications actions that might arise in their day to day activities or during the planning & consultation periods prior to investment projects between implemented.  In particular these project require effective stakeholder consultation with good preparation. Organised by the APLM, the course participants were introduced to the key steps leading up to the implementation of communications actions within a strategy.  The error made by most people is in not identifying enough preparation time ahead of a significant communications actions. In particular, preparation time for good communications activities is often overlooked. A good communications strategy should take account of a variety of action that contribute to an effective strategy. Participants were introduced. A communication action is a coherent concatenation of various actions.  Too ensure specific aspects of communications actions are not overlooked the participants were introduced to the concepts of mind mapping SWOT analysis and excel based chain of actions as tool to bottoming out a wide range of issues that could arise through any communications actions and their impact. Participants looked at the preparation of meetings, including agenda setting, identification of possible difficulties, dealing with complex issues, managing stakeholders in a harbour committee or stakeholder meeting, dealing with conflicts and difficult situations, room preparation, documents, media relations, drafting press releases, use of social networks, presentation techniques and IT based supports including PowerPoint and Prezi. The training helped participants to diagnose all the "ingredients" of a communication action, tasks and subtasks, rank them in order of priority and prepare accordingly.
